Description This small shuttle pod was introduced together with the Defiant class in the late 24th century. Like the Defiant class, type 18 pods are very spartan and simple in design and comfort. This shuttle type is less efficient than the standard type 15 shuttlepod, but in contrast to them, type 18 shuttles have warp capacity, so that they are rather used as escape pods and small person shuttles on ships such as the Defiant class, which have little space and small hangars. Since the type 8 shuttles can only carry 2 persons - the flight crew -, and they are not very versatile and powerful, they were already replaced by the new type 10 shuttles in the middle of the 2370s, which are just as compact, but have more space for passengers, a higher warp capacity and are more efficient in terms of all aspects.
