Cmd. Mark Jameson, who is
First Officer of the USS Gettysburg at that time, marries the later Anne Jameson. |
2319 |
After 65 Federation citizens have
been taken hostage by Karnas' father, one of the tribal chiefs on Mordan IV, in order to
get weapons from the Federation, and two Federation arbitrators have already been killed,
Mark Jameson takes over the negotations. He suceeds in freeing all hostages. However,
while the official reports attribute this to his diplomatic skills for a long time, the
real reason for his success was that he delivered the requested weapons to Karnas' father,
and subsequently hushed the incident. At once, he also delivered weapons to the enemy to
maintain the balance of power, leading to a cruel civil war lasting for 40 years and
killing millions of people. The guilt will burden Jameson his entire life. |
2360 |
Admiral Jameson, who now lives
with his wife on Persephone V, has to learn that he has Iverson's disease, an illness
which leads to a relatively fast physical decay. |
2362 |
Mark Jameson cannot accept his
sickness, which restricts him more and more and puts him in a wheelchair in the end, and
travels to Cerberus II. He asks for a rejuvenating drug, which is kept very strictly by
the Cerberans. However, since Jameson has made important negotations for the Cerberus
years ago, they accept his request and give him two dosages for his wife and himself,
which will show full effect in two years at the earliest, after a continuous series of
painful attacks. Yet, Jameson doesn't tell his wife anything and only takes his own
dosage. |

Despite his retirement, Admiral
Janeway is comissioned to lead negotiations on Mordan IV. Hostages have been taken again,
after Karnas, the governor of Mordan IV, has informed the Federation that rebels have
abducted the Federation ambassador Hawkins and his staff, and only Jameson would be an
appropriate arbitrator. Knowing that he woudln't be fit enough for his last big assignment
since the drug hasn't rejuvenated him yet, he takes the second dosage, resulting in a
gradual improvement of his condition. |

The USS Enterprise arrives at
Persephone V to take Admiral Jameson and his wife Anne to Mordan IV. Along the journey,
the rejuvenating drug shows full effect; not only his illness is mysteriously cured, but
he also becomes younger and younger. During his talks with Karnas, Jameson discovers that
Karnas himself has abducted the Federation personnel as a part of his revenge on Jameson.
However, the Admiral hasn't the power anymore to fight against Karnas - his rejuvenation
proceeds faster and faster and gets out of control; his condition becomes more and more
unstable. |
|
Mark Jameson dies in the arms of
his wife Anne in the governor's office on Mordan IV. Karnas refrains from further acts of
revenge and releases the hostages, so that Jameson could redeem at least a small part of
his guilt. |
