Description |
Large shipyards of
Starfleet in a geosynchronous orbit of the planet Mars, which is located exactly 16625 km
above Utopia Planitia on the surface of Mars, the historical landing area of one of the
first Mars probes and serves for the construction as well as the repair and maintenance of
starships. The Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards therefore conists of a multitude of drydocks,
space stations and other orbital facilities, for instance construction facilities of the
San Francisco and Utopia Planitia type. Due to the large number of facilities, the yards
have a remarkable capacity and, in contrast to the older yards in the orbit of Earth, are
able to construct or repair more than one starship simultaneously. In the big space
stations, but partially also in the drydocks themselves, there are coordination, planning
and designing centers, because the Utopia Planitia Yards are jointly responsible not only
for construcion, but also for design and pllanning of the infrastructure and systems of
the starships in accordance with the project specifications. For instance, it is the task
of the theoretical propulsion group to design the warp drive of the starships. In the last
50 years, the Utopia Planitia Yards, with support of the other facilities under direct
authority of the Advanced Starhip Design Bureaus (ASDB) of Starfleet, were completely or
jointly responsible for design and construction of more than a dozen starship classes,
including the Excelsior class, the Galaxy class, the Nebula class, the Defiant class, the
Intrepid class and a large number of mixed classes that became necessary because of the
Dominion war, quickly produced by the exclusive use of already existing modules, for
example the vessels of the Yeager, Centaur and Curry type. Furthermore, the Starfleet
production plants of the yard are responsible for the series production of the shuttle
types 6, 7, 9A and the Danube class runabout and the work bee. Additional facilities are
located on the surface of the planet, including a department for research and development
(R & D) of Starfleet equipment. Therefore we can rightly claim that the Utopia
Planitia Fleet Yards which are now operational for many decades, belong to the largest
construction facilities of this kind in the Federation. |

2343 |
|
07/06 |
The ASDB submits the propulsion
specification of the upcoming Galaxy class project to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. The
specs include a travel speed of warp 7 and a maximum speed of warp 9.3. |
2344 |
|
July |
Official approval and beginning of
the Galaxy project with simulations, designing and the prototype construction of single
systems in the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards and other ASDB facilities. |
12/24 |
The revised specs of the Galaxy
class are submitted to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. Due to the considerable reduce of
the mass, improved materials and internal changes, the travel speed has been raised to
warp 6, the maximum speed to warp 9.6. |
2347 |
Beginning of the construction of
the Galaxy class prototype in the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. Designing and simulations
continue. |
2350 |
|
06/03 |
The first two spaceframe parts of
the USS Galaxy are gamma-welded during a short ceremony in the Utopia Planitia Fleet
Yards. |
2356 |
|
04/16 |
First tests of the complete system
model of the Galaxy class in the Utopia Planitia Yards. |
04/18 |
The complete system model of the
Galaxy class ist presented to Starfleet in the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. |
05/05 |
The Galaxy class prototype, the
USS Galaxy, exists for the first time in an spaceworthy version and departs from the
Utopia Planitia Yards for propulsion tests. |
2357 |
The spaceworthy version of the USS
Yamato departs from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards for propulsion tests. |
|
The USS Galaxy is comissioned in
the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. |
2358 |
The spaceworthy version of the USS
Enterprise-D departs from the Utopia Planitia Yards for a flight test program. |
2361 |
The USS Yamato is comissioned in
den Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. |
2363 |
|
10/04 |
The USS Enterprise-D is
comissioned in the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. |
2366 |
Official approval of the
experimental Defiant project supervised by Admiral Batelle Toh of the ASDB and beginning
of the prototype construction in the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards under the supervision of
Commander Benjamin Sisko. |
2369 |
End of the basic construction of
the experimental prototype USS Defiant in the Utopia Planitia Yards. |
2370 |
The construction of the first
starships of the Intrepid class is finished in the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. |
|
The Defiant class prototype
departs from the Utopia Planitia Yards to the Antares Fleet Yards near Antares IV for
final tests and the comission. |
2372 |
After the USS Defiant has proved
itself against the Domion, limited series production of the Defiant class begins; 2
additional starships are constructed in the Utopia Planitia Yards. |
2373-75 |
The extreme losses of starships
Starfleet must take during the Dominion war, and the generally increased demand for war
ships for the tactical fleets of the Federation require the construction of a large number
of temporary vessels, that are exclusively based on components of established classes
which already exist or can be constructed quickly, contain only the most necessary systems
and crew facilities and have reinforced defensive systems. "Kit-bashed"
starships of the Yeager, Curry and Centaur type are constructed in the Utopia Planitia
Fleet Yards at this time and immediately deployed at the front. It is planned to
deconstruct these starships, which haven't even received an official registry number very
often, after the end of the war, provided that they haven't been destroyed until
then. |
