Just as on its astronautic and
naval predecessors, the bridge is the command center of NX class starships. Given the high
amount of experimental technology these ships are equipped with, making them to the most
advanced human space vessels of their era, the bridge control and functions are of special
importance. Like in many other regards, this round room, located on A deck just at the
highest point of the saucer section, protected by a thick armor dome, is the prototype for
all Star Fleet (no matter if Earth or Federation) vessels to come: the Captain's chair is
right in the center, equipped with administrative controls, giving the captain information
on the ship status and more. From here the commanding officer has an excellent view on the
other bridge stations, but first and foremost the rectangular view screen which displays
an exterior camera view, tactical information or a visual recording from other locations
during when communicating. The closest station to the view screen is the helm, a large
console with an impressive number of buttons and levers, however operated by only one
officer. If needed, a joystick-like device can be used for ultra-precise navigation, and a
special steering wheel serves similiar purposes. The outer stations of bridge are
seperated from these mid stations by a hand rail. There are especially equipped consoles
for communications, science, weapons/security/sensors and engineering. The rear area of
the bridge is extended by a rectangular section with a large, table-like console. This
"situation room" is used by the captain and his officers to discuss and plan
upcoming away missions and dangerous scenarios. The bridge may be reached via main turbo
lift, from the adjacent ready room and additional access doors. |
